Oiz Red 2019

Variety: 100% Tempranillo.
Vineyard: Average age of 35 years and 585 m altitude.
Limited yield to 6.300 kg/ Ha.
Elaboration: Hand harvest. Carbonic maceration method, whole bunches are introduced in stainless steel tank (18.000 kg). Fermentation takes 9-11 days between 24-26ºC.
Alcohol content: 13,5ºC.
Production: 53.200 bottles.
Recommendation: Consume at a temperature of 14-16ºC
within the year following its elaboration.

Since the XV Century the Wine and Fish Route has crossed Laguardia and Oyon, land of vineyards, to the small harbours of Bermeo, Lekeitio and Ondarroa, fishing villages located in the Bay of Biscay. A route which was used to exchange wine and fish between the coast and inland of the Basque Country.

The cart drivers, guiding their mules loaded with fresh or salted fish, travelled inland from the harbours, passing unavoidably through the mountains of the Sierra de OIZ. On their return journey they loaded their carts with wheat, salt, vinegar and wine.

María Felisa Gaztelurrutia, founder of the winery and daughter of a family linked to the wine sector for 7 generations, was born below the Sierra de OIZ mountain range.

The OIZ wines are a vivid reminder of those young wines, not aged in the barrel, which have been consumed traditionally and are still popular today, with a marked fresh, youthful character.
